Retracing Blurred Lines

we couldn’t have done it alone.

An explorations of the imprints of expectation. Two duets are given the same set of tasks; to discover themselves through learning one another. The couples are tasked to unravel how gendered expectations are stored in their bodies, memory, and interactions. The performers are asked to release normative ideals of interaction and discover connection through unhindered embodied explorations. Tracing the inner landscape of their own association as the trace the outter landscape of the others body.

This improvisational score follows each couple as they go through the motions of discovering what they mean to each other; from the first handshake, to the intimate moments of both playful ecstasy and untamed dissonance.

The couples were separate until the premiere performance, and had never experienced the score on the sand, the unfolding of chance revealing a true window into the intimacy of discovering one another.

This stand alone work was selected to premiere in the CalArts New Works Festival 2015
